About us
An independent that sells the cars it would keep.
Double M Motors is a small, independent car specialist in West Sussex. We take on fewer cars than a volume dealer and spend longer on each one — because a car that has been chosen properly needs far less explaining afterwards.
What we do
Collectible, prestige, family and everyday — the same standard applies.
Some of what we sell is bought to be kept: last-of-the-line engines, limited runs and the specifications that turn out to matter later. Some of it is bought to do the school run in January. Both matter, and both get the same treatment.
A customer buying a dependable family SUV is not a smaller customer than one buying a weekend car. The preparation is the same, the honesty is the same, and the person you deal with is the same. The only difference is the price on the windscreen.
We serve customers across West Sussex, Hampshire, Surrey and Berkshire, including Horsham, Crawley and surrounding areas. Viewings are arranged by appointment, and we are used to people travelling to us for a particular car.
How we work
Four things we will not compromise on
None of this is remarkable. It is simply what a good independent does, written down so you can hold us to it.
- We buy the car, not the advert
- Every car is inspected and driven before we take it on. If the history does not add up, or it drives differently to how it reads on paper, we leave it. That is the whole job, really — most of the value we add happens before a car ever appears on this site.
- The description is the description
- We photograph the marks as well as the good angles, and we say what a car will need next. A stone chip mentioned in the advert costs nothing. A stone chip discovered on the drive home costs a customer.
- One person, from first message to handover
- There is no sales floor and no rota. You speak to the same person throughout, and that person can answer questions about the car rather than reading from a screen.
- The right car beats the nearest car
- If what we have in stock is not right for you, we will say so. We buy to order about as often as we buy to stock, and we would rather find you the correct specification than talk you into a compromise.
Preparation
What happens before a car goes on sale
Every car gets the same routine, whether it is the cheapest thing on site or the most expensive.
- Road tested over a mixed route, including motorway speeds
- Fluid levels, brake wear and tyre condition checked and recorded
- Service history collated and read through before the advert is written
- Fully valeted inside and out, paintwork machine polished
- Photographed as it stands — marks included
Still to confirm. Founding date, the people behind the business, trading history, any warranty offered, independent inspection arrangements, trade body membership and the forecourt address are all deliberately absent from this page. They will be added once Double M Motors supplies them — no accreditation, award or rating is claimed anywhere on this site.
Come and see for yourself
The best way to judge a dealer is to stand next to one of their cars.
Viewings are by appointment, which means the car is ready and nobody is rushing you.
